Best Adult Coloring Books With Cats

As someone who both loves to color and loves felines, let me tell you: there’s coloring, and then there are coloring cats. No other animal has a tornado of a personality quite like them, and no two cats act the same. (I would know—I have four.) This is what makes them the perfect subject for coloring!

The best adult coloring books with cats are:

  • Magical Cat Creatures
  • Cats & Flowers
  • Cats Attack
  • Creative Kittens
  • The Pusheen Coloring Book
  • Caticorn Coloring Book
  • Snarky Cats
  • Foul-Mouthed Felines
  • A Million Cats
  • Cat Mandalas

Read on to see why these are the best of the best, and you are bound to find your next coloring addiction. Whether you love whimsical, technical, or comical—I have you covered.

For Fantasy Lovers

I’m a big fantasy lover, so I geeked out when I saw Magical Cat Creatures. Who doesn’t love myths, fairy tales, and legends, and who doesn’t want to see magical cats?

Why You Will Love It:

  • The book doesn’t just cover one aspect of fantasy—it hits them all. From purrmaids to Capricorns and everything in between, you will be immersed in dream world after dream world.
  • The book is ranked for all ages and abilities, so there’s no need to get too fancy. It is complicated enough that you can get as fancy as you want.
  • Coloring tips and test pages are included. Reviewer Stacy says that the test pages were especially helpful when determining what colors to use.

Give me all the beautiful settings with all the beautiful creates and I will contently color away.

For Lovers of All Things Beautiful

Life can be hard at times, and I often like to lose myself in beautiful artwork. Cats & Flowers features the amazing, whimsical art of Eva Carriere in twenty-five hand-drawn images.

Why You Will Love This:

  • Images are on one side of the page, which is great because reviewer Lil’ E says they are worth framing.
  • There’s a variety of subjects. Although you get both cats and flowers, the artist makes sure each page is unique.
  • The book includes images for both beginners and those wanting a bit of a challenge, and the drawing is balanced in terms of detail and open space.

(By the way, Katherine Winter says this is the cutest coloring book she has ever owned. Who doesn’t love cute cats?)

For Sci-Fi and Action Fans

We’ve discussed cats being cute, but we are all aware that they are also kings and queens of chaos. Cats Attack imagines a world where cats act just as crazy, with one difference: they’re gigantic.

Why You Will Love This:

  • There are twenty images (along with coloring tips and test pages) that are designed for artists of all ages and abilities.
  • The drawings feature cats wreaking havoc in the most diabolical ways: cats as supernatural beasts, cats in nature, cats in outer space, cats with lasers, cats in water, alien cats, and so much more.
  • Reviewer Jenn H. says that the artist has real talent and imagination, and they aren’t wrong. There are drawings in this book that my brain could never cook up.

I’m not usually a big science fiction fan, but I will admit that the idea of vampire cats has intrigued me more than once.

For Advanced Artists

So maybe these other books look great, but you want more of a challenge. Creative Kittens is noted for its beautiful details, and it’s a fantastic coloring book to fully submerge yourself in the coloring experience.

Why You Will Love This:

  • The illustrator, Marjorie Sarnat, is an award-winning mixed-media artist whose style developed from her love of patterns (and this book is full of them).
  • The pages are both perforated and single-sided, which makes displaying your work that much easier.
  • The designs have a folky feel to them, but the patterns full of motifs such as hearts, flowers, and paisleys are always fun to color.
  • Despite the warning that the book is for advanced colorists, reviewer Shadowstorms says that “this should by no means deter beginners”.

I could get lost in this art and not resurface for days.

For Meme Lovers

Have you been on the internet if you haven’t seen Pusheen? The Pusheen Coloring Book is perfect for people who have fallen in love with this adorable, chubby tabby.

Why You’ll Love This:

  • The book is full of ninety-four front and back designs.
  • While it is suitable for all ages, some detailed designs scratch the itch of more advanced colorists.
  • Do you love mandalas? Because this book has them.
  • Pusheen’s character is vibrant enough to make you chuckle.

Because the pages are front and back you will probably want to use colored pencils with this one. David K. H. also advises that you either use a sheet of paper to prevent transference or use a craft knife to cut the pages out and color separately.

For Your Inner Child

I know this book says it’s for children ages four to eight, but hear me out: your inner child falls in that age range. Caticorn Coloring Book is a treat for the part of you that wants nothing more than peace and nostalgia.

Why You Will Love It:

  • There are seventy-five single-sided pages and No duplicate images – a steal.
  • Even though this is for children, it has a perfect mix of cute and simple foregrounds with more detailed, patterned backgrounds.
  • The illustrated created whimsical characters that seem to conjure magic the moment you begin to color them in.

This is the exact book I see myself purchasing for my child and then begging her to share it with me.

For Those Who Need a Laugh

Honestly, whether you like cats or not, Snarky Cats is perfect for you. I think both cat lovers and cat haters can agree that “snarky” is the perfect word to use when describing cats.

Why You Will Love It:

  • There are thirty laid-back illustrations to bring a smile to your face.
  • This book is perfect for a pick-me-up: the drawings are not difficult to complete, so you’ll be left not only laughing at the page but feeling accomplished.
  • Although this is a new release, the artist has more works out that have countless rave reviews.
  • As Riley said, the illustrations are “comically on-point depictions of cat personalities”, and I’m sure you will relate to them.

I also suggest you gift this to the cat-complainer in your life.

For Dark Humored Individuals

While we’re on the subject of laughing, I have one for those of you who don’t have the most conventional sense of humor. Foul-Mouthed Felines is another pick-me-up book that gets into what cats want to say.

Why You Will Love It:

  • The book features thirty different single-side designs that you just might want to put up to add to the ambiance of your abode.
  • The attitude of the cats is spot on, and you’re likely to laugh (at least once). Fair warning: your cat just might get offended.
  • The intricate backgrounds are fantastic for blowing off steam and steadying yourself through challenges, but the foregrounds are basic enough for a quick coloring session.

If cats would talk, I could only imagine these words would be in their vocabulary.

For When You Need to Get Lost in Coloring

Unfortunately, A Million Cats does not, in fact, actually have a million cats for you to color. Feel free to count them all and prove me wrong. It does, however, feature a plethora of cats being and doing everything you can imagine.

Why You Will Love It:

  • This is the lone book on this list that features two-page spreads. I know they aren’t a favorite, but I love the chance to have a more detailed illustration to color.
  • Patterns. Patterns, within patterns, on top of patterns. I wasn’t kidding when I said you could get lost in this one.
  • This is also a smaller book, which makes it more portable. If you’re constantly on the go and find yourself with downtime when you’re out and about—this one is for you.

This is a book you’ll be reaching for often, both when you need a break from reality and just for fun.

For Mandala Maniacs

Another collection by Eva Carriere, but this time mandala-centric. Cat Mandalas is for those who enjoy the cyclical process of coloring these geometric beauties.

Why You Will Love It:

  • While the art is primarily mandalas, there are other illustrations should you want something else to work with. (Seventy pages in all!)
  • The drawings are printed on one side of the page, so you will be able to remove them either to transport them or color them in with markers. You will also want to display them, and now you won’t have to make any choices.
  • The drawing is next-level amazing, even for what you expect from a mandala-themed book. The cats do add a little something extra here.

If you’re a mandala enthusiast this is a perfect find for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which coloring utensil is best for coloring books?

I will always recommend colored pencils. They’re fantastic for details, come in a wide variety of colors, and they don’t tend to smudge or bleed through. Markers are a fantastic second because of their bold colors but test your paper before using them.

How can I get over my fear of coloring outside the lines?

I loathe the idea of ruining an image by doing this, so I make sure to remind myself that I’m coloring for my benefit, and it’s beneficial for me not to give myself a hard time. (You can also erase colored pencils, and I suggest a kneaded eraser for this.)
