8) Coloring Book for Adults | Adult Coloring Book App
Many adult coloring apps have a selection of images or color palettes available for free. Additional coloring pages or colors are available for purchase or subscription (sometimes removing ads or watermarks or providing additional features). Check out a description of each below to find out what app best suits your interests and budget!
1) Coloring Book for Me & Mandala (by Apalon Apps)
If you don’t mind watching a few ads, this app offers one of the widest varieties of free features. The app has 45 essential color palettes of 8 colors each (some of which require an ad to use). It has a few unique features, like one that allows you to “fill” in areas of coloring pages with a photo of your own (allowing you to include a color or texture from real life) and a selection of soothing in-app sounds. It also has three adjustable brushes for free and 11 more with ads.
There are over 30 different image categories, and images are free or unlockable with ads. You can also create and color your mandala, and the app has a selection of effects to apply to your finished drawing. The app will apply a watermark to your finished work, but you can remove it for free by watching a video. It also has an “Inspire” feature to view others’ artwork.
The only real trouble is that switching between color palettes is a bit slow, but the other features more than make up for it. It also has one of the more reasonably priced upgrades;
Premium is a one-time payment of $9.99 (or $3.99 per week) and unlocks all pictures and palettes, removes the watermark, and removes all ads.
2) Coloring Book for Adults (by Color Time & PuzzleTime)
This app also has one of the best ranges of tools if you don’t intend to spend any money. The app has a user-friendly interface, a color-scale system that lets you create virtually any color, eight different brushes that give you a “real coloring” effect with your finger (along with the standard tap-to-fill), and a big selection of colorful stickers. It also has eight different gradients that allow you to control where the light and dark areas land depending on where you tap.
It also has a unique feature where it loads a “mystery page,” which appears blank until you start filling in random areas with color to reveal the image, which is a fun twist. Discovering the picture is good fun. You do have to sit through an occasional short ad, and there is an ad banner. Premium removes ads and is a modest $3.49.
3) Coloring Sheets 2020: New Coloring Pages & Drawing (by Coloring Pages)
The app has over 500 coloring pages in 19 different categories, with new images released daily. Overall, the images lean a little more basic than some other apps, but that’s understandable when you realize it’s completely free and there are no ads. It also has a pretty decent selection of over 200 colors.
The best part of the app is the selection of four brushes. It also allows you to automatically change the outline color of the coloring image, which is a unique feature and a cool twist on the typical black outline. It offers gradients and “live” colors, but the gradient and the motion on these options were subtle. If you want a basic, free, no-ads experience, this might be the app for you.
4) ColorMe: Coloring book & Coloring games (by Dot to Dot s.r.o.)
The ColorMe app has 22 categories of images and 18 color palettes of 11 colors for free, with more available with ads. It also has gradients, brushes you can draw using your finger, and a moving color option called “live” color that causes a slight pulsing effect. The images tend toward the more straightforward side compared to some other apps, but if you’re interested in portraits and people, this app has the best selection of them. It also has an in-app photo option to snap a picture and create your coloring pages.
You do have to sit through an ad before and after coloring each of the images, and the scrolling between color palettes was a little slow. ColorMe Premium is a one-time purchase of $19.99 that removes ads, unlocks over 500 pictures, and unlocks all features.
5) Recolor: Adult Coloring Book– Color and Relax (by Recolor)
The app comes with just over 100 free primary colors and over 20 different categories, each with a handful of images for free (with ads). It also has a selection of 11 “crayon” colors for coloring with your finger. The coloring pages themselves are pretty unique, with greyscale effects that influence the finished product and create some shading and depth you don’t see in other coloring pages. Overall, the free options were pretty limited but good quality.
Recolor Premium unlocks over 5000 images, metallic and gradient color palettes, the ability to upload your images, and removes ads for $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
6) Colorfy: Adult Coloring Book – FreeStyle Color (by Fun Games For Free)
The app features 16 different categories ranging from famous artwork to florals to mandalas to places. Most of the categories only come with one free image (usually a relatively basic one), though watching an ad will give you access to one free image a day. There are also cool filters to apply after you finish coloring. But the app’s best feature is the ability to create your coloring pages. You can take your photo in the app and color it, or you can also create your coloring pages using a selection of stickers and backgrounds.
The app also has an online community to share your artwork with and get inspired and has one of the most impressive user interfaces.
ColorfyPlus gives you access to all of the drawings and color palettes, gradients, and three additional brushes. Plus is $15.99 a month, or $79.99 for a year, making it one of the higher-priced premium options on this list. Plus also grants the ability to draw and color your mandala.
7) Colorfit – Drawing & Coloring (by Creative APPS)
Colorfit’s drawings tend toward the simpler side, but the user interface is pretty easy to navigate and has a good tutorial. This app has 15 categories, a pretty limited range of free colors, and only 15 free drawings, though Colorfit has an in-app currency system of diamonds, which is used to unlock new pictures. You get diamonds by playing daily for more rewards or by buying them. The diamonds can also be used to unlock more colors and gradients temporarily (or you can watch an ad). You also get two brushes for free, rather than just tap-to-fill, and you can unlock more brushes with diamonds.
VIP unlocks all access and features for a steep $99.99. You can also permanently unlock brushes for $2.99 each, or all colors for $2.99 as well.
8) Coloring Book for Adults | Adult Coloring Book App (by App Labs Games)
The app has 21 color palettes of 11 colors each, which gives quite an impressive range of colors. There aren’t any gradients, brushes, or other effects, and the scrolling between color palettes to switch colors isn’t ideal. Still, on the plus side, there are hundreds of drawings to choose from—from 12 categories—and everything is 100% free (though there are an occasional ad and a banner at the bottom of the screen). The images to choose from also have a reasonable variation in style and detail.
